The flight deck of the Boeing 314 Clipper looked to be a very civilized place to work. If I had the time, and copious funds needed, I would be game for building one. Navigator, flight engineer and radio operator appear to be visible behind the pilots.

It’s too bad that none of these survived. It was a really important aircraft and they always look beautiful in the pictures that I’ve seen - that picture over the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the best though—and that’s the biggest flight deck I’ve ever seen!

Interesting to me is how they seem more like boats that fly than flying boats, if that makes any sense. That looks as much like the bridge of a ship as it does a flight deck. That second photo is awesome.

You wonder with carbon fire and other modern materials if they couldn’t build something like that, and it would have much better performance than back in the day.
